Quick hair update

Here's a pic of the progress so far . . .

When I was coloring my hair, it seemed to grow so fast. After three weeks, I could see the roots. Now that I'm not coloring, it seems to be growing so slowly. This is after 9 1/2 weeks of no coloring.

So I decided to get it cut, just to try and speed things up a bit.

It's hard to get a decent selfie, but at least here you can see the roots. I've left the bangs long to keep some illusion of length for myself, but the sides and back are really short. In fact, all the color is off the lower back, at the neckline.

So the bangs could still take forever, but I think the back and sides will be all grown out by Thanksgiving.

I had about 2 1/2 to 3 inches cut off, which saves me almost six months of growing out time.

Some days I like it, some days I don't. At least I'll have lots of time to get used to it, at this rate!

  2. This is a wonderful jazzy hair cut and you look ever so cute. I don't color my hair either and keep it about the length you show here, but not so stylish. I love it!

  5. I love it ! I have been considering cutting my hair a few inches too. My hair is mostly gray & white no, but I want to start fresh with a better look. If my husband were O.K. with short hair I'd go for it !

  16. I started growing my hair out about 5 and a half years ago. I have not regretted it a minute. I have pure white hair, no color at all and I love it. I've had lots of people tell me I look younger. Don't lose faith; it's worth it. My color was a lot darker than yours and there was a lot more contrast as it grew in. Yours looks great. It will be worth it.

  20. I just discovered your blog via another blog. I thought I would share that you will love your new hair when you are done. I have been "going gray" since my twenties. I prefer to call it silver now!!! A few years after I turned 40, I grew tired of the coloring process. It was constant, and then not only did you have the roots, but the colored part began to turn red. I was a very dark brunette, really almost black. I decided to stop the rat race. I am now about to turn 55 and have a head full of silver hair. The secret is a great cut that makes "you" happy. After the silver is all in, you will find that the more coarse hair that you thought might be there gives way to a much softer feel.
I love my hair. Of course, we all would love to have the hair of our younger years, but our skin lightens and the hair needs to match.
Good luck with the process. I actually get compliments on my hair and its color a lot these days.
