thebeautifulmatters

December 3, 2013

I'm brand new at this blogging thing, and am really somewhat intimidated by all the beautiful, successful blogs out there. What more can I offer to blogland? And will it be months before anyone even can find me here? It seems that there is all kinds of networking that you have to do. And followers you have to get. And pictures! I don't know anything about photography. Which is why I have this random photo of banana bread I made today.

I think I'm supposed to have a "brand" or something, too, so that I can get a target audience. Books? Homemaking? Faith? Fashion and beauty? DIY? Frugal living? Cooking? Tea? All of these topics seem to be amply covered by many gorgeous blogs I have had the pleasure of reading  for a number of years now.

But I've decided just to start. And see what happens. Even if no one ever comes my way.

I was going to call this blog "Glimpses of Beauty," but I've noticed that there are several blogs out there with that name already. Same with "Beauty Matters." I liked that one because you can read "Matters" as a verb or as a noun. I think more in terms of the verb, as in "beauty really does matter." The title of this blog, "thebeautifulmatters" can be read both ways as well. Again, I think of it in terms of "the beautiful really does matter."

What do I mean by "the Beautiful" or "Beauty?" I don't mean models on the cover of Vogue, or other such packaged versions of beauty. I don't necessarily mean Pinterest-worthy perfection, although I do love Pinterest.  I mean drops of rain sparkling in the sun, a slumbering baby with fat little fingers curled up in a tiny fist, snow drifting onto dark pine branches, and a golden harvest moon hanging low in the sky. I mean acts of kindness and courage. I mean the lines on my friends' faces that speak of lives well lived.

We are told in the New Testament to think on these things. Things that are lovely and true and beautiful. It's not the big things in life so much, as each little beautiful thing, strung together like pearls, that add up. I hope to have eyes to see.

  1. Deborah, I am visiting from Fabby's blog today. I like the tea cup and saucer she won at your give away. I followed her link to your blog to see what you are blogging about. I am so pleased I found you. I have read a dozen or so of your posts and I think you are doing a wonderful job of creating a lovely blog for your readers to enjoy. This post stuck a special chord for me. I have been blogging for about nine months and I have been in a quandary about who am I trying to reach with my blog too. I have decided that I will ignore the numbers and blog for myself and my family and friends. I am really only expressing who I am when I blog. I am your newest follower and I will be looking forward to seeing more of your posts in the future. Now I have to go see that Valentine's Day tablescape I noticed on the way to this post..... Candy
